About Portage Lakes

The Portage Lakes district in northeast Ohio is comprised of parts of the City of New Franklin, Coventry Township, and the City of Green. Located about 6 miles south of downtown Akron and 17 miles north of downtown Canton, “the Lakes” lacks any true political boundaries but is well defined by the zip code 44319.

The population is 22,000 people, with 18.3 square miles of land area and over 2,000 acres of water. The Lakes district is roughly bordered by Waterloo Road on the north, East Comet Road on the south, Manchester Road on the west and South Arlington Road on the east.

The Lakes have a lot to offer year round and are a fantastic place to visit. Water recreation is a top activity with the 800 acres of the “main chain” of Portage Lakes offering many bars and restaurants, a 900 foot long public beach, three marinas to rent pontoons and several boat ramps to launch your own craft.

Often thought of as just a summer playground, once the lakes freeze over, it’s only a matter of time until the snowmobilers and ice fishermen come out. There are countless ways you can experience Portage Lakes!
